Day strip: highlight selected day, not today

In calendar view, the day navigation strip at the top is a bit confusing. Right now, today’s date has the background color regardless of which day I’m viewing, and the selected day shows up as the first day in the strip, with only later days listed after it.

As a result, there is no way to see days before the selected day. It is also cumbersome to navigate back a few days, since I can’t see the days before the day I’m on.

In addition, a standard UI convention is that the item selected by the user gets a background/highlight color.

Suggestion:

  • Give the selected day the background color instead of today’s date
  • Show a few days before the selected day in the strip

This would make the strip easier to read at a glance and make it quicker to step back a few days.

I agree that it would useful for a few previous days to be shown.
But I would not want to see today’s date lose emphasis.

So best, IMO to emphasize both the selected day and today.

I would also find having a few previous days showing to be useful. For emphasizing the current day vs the selected date, I would suggest a black outline around the selected date and continue to have the current day show in the darker gray like it is now. This would differentiate the two, and if they were the same, the current day would have both the black outline and be shaded in a darker gray.
