Problem: It can be hard to scan one’s eyes down a list that includes a mix of completed and uncompleted tasks. Yes, you can always hide completed tasks, but then you can no longer see what tasks you’ve completed! I’m spending a lot of time manually moving my completed tasks to the bottom so I can still see them but so they don’t clutter the list.
Solution: In addition to the existing keyboard shortcut “COMMAND+RETURN”, which marks a task complete, there should be a new keyboard shortcut: “SHIFT+COMMAND+RETURN” which would mark the task complete and move it to the bottom of its list.
For example, if I had the following list:
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
Item 4
Item 5
And then I used “SHIFT+COMMAND+RETURN” to complete Item 2, it would turn grey with a strike through and move down below Item 5
It would make sense for the cursor not to follow the completed task down to the bottom of the list, but rather still go where it would have gone with the original “COMMAND+RETURN” shortcut. In the case of the example above, the cursor would go to Item 3 after having completed Item 2.
While there are definitely some use cases in which maintaining the original order of the list is important, there are many other use cases when it would be better to have the completed tasks move to the bottom of the list. These include packing lists or shopping lists where I would want to be able to quickly see which items I’ve already put into my suitcase or cart but also no clutter my list of items I still need to find.
The Apple Notes app does this sorting completed items to the bottom automatically and I always miss that behavior when I’m working in WorkFlowy.
Thank you for considering!
