If you are typing on pane 2, while your pane 1 is already in search, you click “Escape” and expect to search in pane 2. But it just influences pane 1, ending up unfocusing the pane 1 search. Second, if you are in pane 2, you use the shortcut for “focus search.” It just goes directly into the search in pane 1.
