Looking for some help or tips on how to search a really long list in Workflowy. Specifically, I have a Music/Bands list where the number of bands is very large.
Is there a search syntax available to jump to bands starting with a letter (e.g., V) and then to extend that search further with additional letters (E.g., Verv*)?

If you just type v in the search box, it will only find words beginning in v, and if you just type verv, it will only find words beginning with verv. But (contrary to your desire) these will include words that do not begin the band names. No way to find only the beginning of node text.
There was once a feature request for support for regular expressions (regexes) which while not clean or easy can find / match pretty much anything you want. But I have seen no indication that this is on the drawing board.
