Product Update 2026.08: Panes and more

Panes

  • Much requested and finally here, you can now open Panes in Workflowy.
  • Panes keep multiple parts of your Workflowy outline open side by side in the same window.
  • Keep your Today node open while you work, reference notes while drafting a document, or move nodes between parts of your outline without losing your place.
  • Each pane is a view of an existing node, not a duplicate. Any edits you make in a pane update the original everywhere it appears.
  • To create a new pane, press the ‘New pane’ button in the header. To open a specific node, hold Alt (Option on Mac) and click its bullet, choose Open in Pane from the node menu, or type /open in pane.
  • Note: Panes are available in desktop browsers and the Workflowy desktop apps. No mobile support (yet).
  • For more, including keyboards shortcuts, visit the Panes help doc.

Improvements

  • Tables: Move a row using the standard Move Up and Move Down keyboard shortcuts.
  • Inline code: Typing two spaces at the end of inline code returns you to regular text.
  • Dividers: Pressing Delete immediately after typing a Divider title no longer turns it back into a bullet.
  • PDF previews: Closing a PDF no longer leaves a weird black rectangle over Workflowy.
  • Search: Use has:children to find nodes with child nodes.
  • Calendar: Move to Date is now available from the node menu.
  • Google Calendar: Sync recovers more reliably from temporary connection failures.
  • Mobile: The indent, outdent, undo, and redo keyboard accessory buttons now update immediately. No more lag.
  • Settings: A redesigned Settings screen brings clearer sections, consistent controls, and simpler navigation.
  • Billing: If a subscription payment is delayed, Workflowy now recognizes the existing subscription and prevents you from starting another checkout.
  • iOS: Upgrade to Pro directly from Settings.
  • Login: Password users can switch back to emailed login codes.
